Problem solving, and fault finding is something we do on a daily basis, but occasionally you get stumped on something which is completely illogical..
A job this week in Penshurst near Tonbridge gave us a good run for our money, but was very satisfying once we had solved and resolved the issue.
We see a lot of Volkswagens with wiring or electrical issues, and usually they are are simply resolved, or at the very least, simply diagnosed, but oh no, not this time..!
The issue was a 2011 VW Polo with the yellow oil can symbol illuminated on the dashboard.
We are not VW specialists, so we don't see this everyday, but after checking it out, we found out that this light when illuminated in yellow means that the oil level is low. If it was flashing we believe it means that there is an issue with oil pressure, but when static it only means the oil level is low.
The owner tells us the yellow light came on and they checked the oil level, which was low, and then topped it up, however the light has stayed illuminated..
So the big question is, why will the light not go out once the oil has been topped up??
Do you know ?? Does anyone know?! apart from the man in Germany who designs these cars...
To add some pressure, the customer needed this fixed asap as they had a driving test booked, and you cannot use a car for your driving test which has any engine fault lights or warning lights displayed on the dashboard.
So how was this resolved ?? Any ideas ??
We will come back to this next week, and tell you how this was resolved. Needless to say the young lady whose car it is, will be taking her driving test this coming week, and we wish her the best of luck !!
